Milestone in Green Energy: China Approves First SAF Export Quota

China has taken a significant step toward greener aviation by issuing its first export quota for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Jiaao Entrotech has been granted approval to export up to 372,400 tonnes of SAF from its 500,000 t/year facility in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province.

This quota, which utilizes the same HS codes as conventional jet fuel, is an additional allocation and does not impact existing jet fuel export quotas. The government may extend similar approvals to other SAF producers pending further regulatory review, marking a potential expansion of China's commitment to low-carbon aviation fuel exports.

WEF, GenZero Launch Asia-Pacific SAF Initiative:

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has partnered with Singapore-based investment platform GenZero to launch the Green Fuel Forward initiative, aimed at accelerating demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across the Asia-Pacific region.

Announced at the GenZero Climate Summit 2025 in Singapore on May 5, the initiative will offer expert workshops and strategic guidance on SAF adoption. It brings together key industry players, including Air New Zealand, Boeing, DHL, Neste, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, and the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Green Fuel Forward seeks to strengthen regional SAF infrastructure, create market confidence, and support the scale-up of SAF production — a critical step toward decarbonizing the aviation sector and achieving long-term climate goals.
