Altech has secured its second offtake agreement, partnering with German renewable energy project Referenzkraftwerk Lausitz (Reflau) to supply 158MWh of energy storage capacity over five years using its innovative Cerenergy sodium chloride batteries.
Reflau, jointly owned by Enertrag and Energiequelle, will use the batteries in a modern renewable energy power plant aiming to stabilize grids powered by wind, solar, and green hydrogen.
The project, supported by €28.5 million from the EU, will initially purchase 30MWh of storage in the first year, increasing to 32MWh annually. Operations are slated to start in 2026, with Altech also purchasing green energy from Reflau to power its planned battery production facility.
Altech’s sodium chloride batteries offer a safer, lithium-free, and durable alternative to traditional lithium-ion batteries, lasting over 15 years and operating under extreme conditions. The deal underscores growing demand for Altech’s technology and secures production for its first two years. The company is also advancing silica-enhanced lithium-ion battery technology and making progress on financing its German facility, setting the stage for a breakout year in 2025.
